About this Collectable
Volvo V70 R T6
In 1995, Volvo presented the T5-R that came as a sedan and estate. A bold move, but ultimately almost 3x as many were sold as expected. Porsche also contributed another share by modifying the suspension for Volvo. In late 1997, the trick was repeated with the V70, which however had a modest power gain of only 10hp compared to the ‘regular’ T5, provided you had a manual transmission, otherwise there was really no power gain at all. Later, the R version also became available as AWD, and the next type of V70 (from 2000) even came with a 300hp version (from 2003) that always had four-wheel drive. Incidentally, ‘R’ at Volvo stands for ‘Refined’. Meanwhile, like many manufacturers (AMG line, M-sport, ST-line etc), R-line has degenerated into a marketing trick and any basic version with 3 cylinders can be fitted as an R even though it has nothing to do with the performance of a real R.
The R they forgot to make at Volvo we now have in our auction. Nothing wrong with Volvo's delightful (Blik op de weg) sounding 5-cylinders, but under the motto, may it be a little more, here is a real T6 lined up in the front. Not just plug and play, but a serious project by KMS, which has resulted in a super-fast estate car that far surpasses the ‘normal’ R. In 2015, the then-owner had a factory-new Polestar 3.0 T6 engine fitted that, after some fine-tuning at KMS, produces a healthy 362 hp. Coupled to a revised and strengthened 5-speed gearbox, it is taken to the front wheels which, in damp weather, do struggle a little to get the 555NM onto the tarmac. Of course, the chassis has also been modified, different springs and shock absorbers have been fitted and the car has been fitted with a Porsche braking system! Recently, everything has been addressed again and overhauled where necessary to bring the car in top technical condition. The 6 cylinder is neatly registered with the RDW.
Our opinion
The Volvo 850R was really something special in 1995, especially as an Estate and finished in yellow paint. The V70 was already less special, but that has been completely overturned with this T6. What a beautiful and understated machine for taking your kids to school at lightning speed or popping on the German Autobahn at speed. Make no mistake, this is a car of around 1500kg and thus a serious competitor to today's M'n, S'n and AMGs that soon weigh 2000kg and thus require 500+ hp. A successful upgrade as far as we are concerned.

Notes
This V70R T6 Polestar is a ‘one-off’ built by Kronenburg Motormanagement Systems, where the components (engine, transmission, suspension, brakes etc) have been carefully tuned to make it a daily usable car while allowing for sports car performance. For a car of 26 years old and over 200 thousand kilometres, the V70R still looks tidy. The rear bumper has some use damage and the interior the normal signs of use that come with age and mileage. The air conditioning is currently not connected, the pump is supplied separately. The cold start requires a toehold on the throttle and the idle fluctuates slightly, but a gnome who pays attention to that on a sports car like this. Incidentally, KMS can do some tuning work on that.
Recent service history
The car was rebuilt, in 2015 - 2016 by KMS and the then owner. It was then driven privately and on business by the previous owner and came into the possession of the current owner last year. He drove the car privately and did the aforementioned work and also had it tuned again at KMS. The car has covered 204,000km, the engine and reconditioned gearbox only 30,000km. The car has otherwise been kept in top technical condition in-house.
Included with sale

About the seller
For the seller, a Classic R really is a dream car from childhood. The lines and understated character make the car timeless for him. Combined with the dark interior and manual transmission, it is finished. He has had several models for years and this one was obviously the ultimate version for him as an enthusiast. Understated, nothing special to the layman but when you start it you know it's something special. So the old character with new performance really carefully and neatly built in. He has enjoyed driving the car and made it peaky over the past two years. Also overhauled the gearbox with new clutch/flywheel etc. Really very neat. Due to personal circumstances, he is saying goodbye to this special V70
