After a few generations of Polo, there was room for a model below the Polo to offer an affordable alternative for the masses.
The car started life as the Seat Arosa but wasn't a success. With its small engines, the Arosa was (just like its sales) sluggish. VW's Lupo was immediately a fun car to look at, with a mature interior and dashboard. Besides a very fast Lupo GTi, there was also the slowest Lupo, the Lupo 3L, which has since achieved cult status. This diesel was extremely fuel-efficient but, like the Arosa, sluggish. That's why Volkswagen also created the 1.4TDi, which we'll be featuring here. With almost 200 Nm of torque, this Lupo has mature handling.
