Porsche 911 Turbo (930)

The Porsche 930 Turbo is a legendary sports car and has become a true icon since its debut. This powerful and distinctive 911 variant is known for its striking design, impressive performance and, among other reasons, has had a lasting influence on the world of high-performance vehicles.

In 1974, Porsche released the first prototype 911 Turbo. 260 horsepower from a 3 liter engine fitted with a Turbo compressor. Only BMW released the 2002 Turbo at about the same time. This was truly unique in the passenger car world. Never before had turbocharged engines been developed for public roads. By now it is commonplace, indeed Porsche is 1 of the few manufacturers that still provides an unblown engine in its GT models.

After the first few thousand 3.0 liter models, the 3.3 turbo was introduced in 1977. Meanwhile 300 hp and a power that came in more gradually and thus without the abrupt pressure build-up as with the first widowmakers.

Although production of the 930 Turbo ended in 1989, its legacy lives on in later generations of the Porsche 911 Turbo. The 930 Turbo is still considered one of the most iconic and desirable sports cars of all time, and its unique combination of style, performance and heritage continues to inspire the admiration of car enthusiasts around the world. It is a reminder of an era when cars were still built with a pure passion for speed and design.

0-100 went in 5 seconds and the top speed was over 260kmh. For late seventies a world time and still impressive. You have to work for it, though. Four-speed manual transmission (the five-speed transmission could not handle the power) and no power steering. This is still real driving!

The 930 Turbo offered here was first registered in 1980 in Germany by the Frankfurt dealer Glöckler. After spending some time in the USA (about which unfortunately little is known), the car came to the Netherlands in 2014. During the period in the Netherlands an extensive history is present. For example, as a precaution the engine was overhauled in 2015 at 72000 km by a Porsche specialist in Noordwijk. And later the gearbox was also taken care of by a well-known specialist in Bodegraven who also performed the last maintenance. The engine, thanks to the German delivery and unlike the USA versions, has 300 hp instead of the 286 USA hp.

Our opinion

A classic 930 Turbo with the characteristic spoiler on which, if you had done your best on the German autobahn, you could fry an egg. Everyone used to want one of those! Still do by the way, but more for the hobby and fun drives. Always enough power and a beautiful sound from the air-cooled 6 cylinder boxer. Few cars appeal more to the imagination than this 930. A mighty Porsche that the new owner will enjoy a lot.
