In 1974, the 911 was thoroughly revised and generally referred to as the G-series. The most striking external feature is the bumpers, which merge seamlessly into the bodywork via black plastic bellows. These were necessary to comply with new regulations in the USA. The car was now available only as the 911, 911 S, and the 911 Carrera. As with the previous Carrera, the rear fenders were widened by 42 mm, and at a weight of 1,075 kg, the new Carrera weighed the same as the 911 RS Touring and therefore offered the same performance. For the 1976 model year, the Carrera 2.7 was replaced by the 3.0 Carrera. In 1978, a number of models were discontinued, and the 911 was available only as the SC and Turbo, with the SC initially having 180 hp and the final versions 204 hp. The warranty against rust perforation was extended to ten years. In 1984, the Carrera was introduced with a 3.2-liter engine and 231 hp. For the USA, a catalytic converter version was available with 207 hp (later 217). Although the power differences are relatively small on paper, the "catless" 231 hp version is clearly livelier and faster. Coming to our auction this coming week is a clean 3.2 with a complete service history from new.
