About this Collectable

Porsche 964 Carrera 2 Targa

The 964 Targa combines the best of many worlds.
- Air-cooled
- Modern chassis
- Classic appearance
- Coupé and convertible in one

When introduced in 1989, the iconic lines of the primal 911 remained largely intact, but in the meantime 85% of the car was new. Equipped with power steering, ABS and a modern chassis, among other things, it is a classic which, by classic standards, is easy and good to drive. The bumpers were given more modern styling and, for the sake of handling at high speed, the car was given a fold-out spoiler, something Porsche still uses today.
In the 964, a new 3.6-litre engine was developed from the existing 3.2 Mezger block, which still makes the true air-cooled boxer engine sound. This one is good for 250 hp.
The nice thing about the Targa is that it combines the charm and fresh air of a convertible with the rigidity of a coupé.
In the 964, tiptronic (rear-wheel drive only) and all-wheel drive were available for the first time. This car is a true driver's version with manual transmission and rear-wheel drive. The version is great in the colour combination black, black and a black roof. Besides the leather upholstery, the car has the classic 16-inch wheels and Cup mirrors.

This Porsche saw the light of day in 1990, was delivered to Mahag in Munich and was admitted to the NL in 2017.
The service booklet and further history are unfortunately missing. The car was auctioned at the Domeinen in 2021 and a re-insertion of the chassis number took place. As the current owner did not want any surprises, he took the car to a Porsche specialist who completely overhauled the engine as a precaution.

Our opinion

Apart from the RS and turbo versions, the Targa is surely one of most special bodywork variants. Partly because of its "National Police" image, it is a king of the road. In this 2-wheel drive version with manual transmission, it does have the best driving version available.

About the seller

The 964 Targa is being sold on behalf of a Dutch enthusiast who has set his sights on a newer Targa after some great drives through Scandinavia. He only has room for 1 car, so as a result this one unfortunately has to go. The great memories he has of the car are the speed, the smooth shifting and all the raised thumbs up when driving by.
