About this Collectable

Porsche 911 2.4S

In 1964, the Porsche 911 first became available as the successor to the 356, faster, roomier, and fitted with a genuine 6-cylinder boxer. Even the 356 was already a smooth and sporty coupe, but the 911 was still clearly a step ahead. That the 911, despite its unusual concept (engine at the back) would become such a success, Ferry Porsche never dared to dream. Not only the sporty motorist knew how to appreciate the 911, the car also became an icon in rally and racing. The S-models of the 911 are and always were something special. More power, modified braking system, sportier tuned suspension and usually also various interior modifications such as sports seats and small details. With the F models, the S versions were always recognisable by the ‘redline’ of the rev counter which was well above 7000t/m. The first S models entered the market in 1967 with a boosted 2-litre engine. Later, the 2.2 litre was introduced which took it to 180hp and the last S models had 2.4 litre capacity. At 190hp, only 10hp more than the 2.2, but more torque. That the engine had little trouble with just 1,000kg of weight is no surprise.

The 911 2.4S offered here was delivered in 1973 in Switzerland to the first owner in the colour Gemini blue metallic. The current purple-blue colour looks great on the 911, especially in combination with the Fuchs rims and chrome accents. The 2.4S was professionally restored in the past by Kobus from Winterwijk and the fact that the car still looks very good indicates that it was professionally done. Apart from some superficial corrosion, the underside also looks very good. The ‘matching’ engine starts immediately, runs smoothly and hangs wonderfully on the throttle as is only the case with Porsche's MFI engines. The fact that Porsche used this engine as the basis for the 2.7 RS (which incidentally only delivered 20hp more) shows how good the 2.4S already was.

Our opinion

The 911 2.4S on offer here is truly a cutie pie. Well restored in the past and equipped with the right options such as original Recaro seats and sunroof, it is a wonderful driver. A car you can really enjoy. The F models are somewhat affordable again and the S versions in particular have an acceptable purchase price after a sky-high price level. Prices for the F models are expected to rise again

About the seller

Our seller has had the 911 since 2014 and drove it relatively little. He liked having a restored and reconditioned F-model that was the basis of the 911 RS. As he is thinning his collection a bit, he has decided to sell the 2.4S through The Collectables.

Equipment

From the factory, this 911 was equipped with:

Sliding roof
Koni shock absorbers
Antenna with speakers
Left exterior mirror

Modifications

Notes

This 911 2.4S is in very good condition. The engine shows no excessive leaks and runs very cleanly. The appraiser assessed this 911 last year with a quality class 2 (no technical defects and minor signs of use)

Recent maintenance history

The 911 has been maintained by the specialist, but has hardly been driven, especially in recent years. We recommend a pre-commissioning service
