About this Collectable
The Ferrari 360 Modema has aged well. Especially in a neutral color like this Argento Nurburgring, the lines come out well, without being garish. Initially slightly underrated after the classic beauty of the F355, the 360 Modena is now starting to gain more appreciation. In addition, the better car in all aspects, further developed and the first modern Ferrari.
After the hugely successful F355 (nearly 10,000 sold cars in five years), Ferrari knew it couldn't rest on its laurels. Lamborghini had also been shaken up, so Ferrari had to come up with something good. The 360, unveiled in berlinetta form at the Geneva Motor Show in spring 1999, was much more than an evolution of the 355.
Gone were the simple lines, instead Pininfarina drew something with curves, more voluptuous. Also gone were the pop-up headlights that could be traced back to the 308 GTB; the 360 placed them under plexiglass covers, below them those gaping air intakes for double water radiators. In addition, a glass hood aloowing a view of the red cam covers of the mid-mounted V8 engine.
It was a fresh look for Ferrari and a reflection of major changes, not only in aerodynamics - the 360 generated up to four times the F355's downforce - but also in construction. The main difference from the 360 was that both the main structure and outer body panels were all aluminum. The net effect was that although the 360 was a larger, more refined and noticeably more spacious car than the F355, it was only 40kg heavier.
Mechanically, the 360 was very much an evolution of the F355. The 90-degree flat-crank V8 had increased capacity from 3.5 to 3.6 liters (so 360) but kept the same basic architecture, including the five-valve heads and variable valve timing. Peak power increased, from 380 hp to 400 hp, and torque increased at lower revs, giving the 360 a more muscular feel. Response was also sharper thanks to new engine management and a drive-by-wire throttle - a first for a Ferrari. This worked especially well with the optional F1 paddle shift gearbox - also adopted from the F355 - allowing for faster but smoother shifting. The 0-100 claim was now 4.5 seconds, two tenths faster than the F355 and the top speed was quoted as 295 km / h plus.
The 360 was a devastating road car. It does everything you could hope for from a Ferrari, but with such precision and ease that you don't have to think twice about unleashing its performance. Raw emotion combined with technical finesse. You only know what throttle response is if you have driven a Modena. Continuing to more than 8,500 rpm sounds unparalleled.
Like the 355, the 360 was equipped with ASR traction control and electronically controlled dampers, but no stability control. It was a better car than the 355 in almost every way - more civilized when you don't tear down the road, but still have a real Ferrari heart.
Especially in this version it is a very stylish model which will only get more appreciation as time goes on. This Modena comes from 2004, the last construction year in which the F430 was also introduced. Ferrari delaler Kroymans imported the car from Germany in 2005 and the Ferrari has been serviced there and at Ferrari dealer Munsterhuis ever since. Specified in Argento Nurburgring with black leather and the F1 derived gearbox.
In many ways, the 360 is a very affordable Ferrari to drive - significantly better than previous cars. To replace the timing chains, the block no longer has to be removed, something that was a real disadvantage with the F355. The clutch of the F1 gearbox lasts an average of 20,000 km and no longer costs a fortune to replace.
