BMW M140i (F20)
The six-cylinder BMW 1-series remains a recurring answer to the question ‘what if you could only drive 1 car daily?’. The rear-wheel drive in combination with the B58 engine makes the M140i feel and drive like a real BMW. A compact sports car that is still mature and practical enough to drive every day. With the first 1-series there was only an M-version of the coupé, although you could also have a lot of fun with the 6-cylinder 130i, released in 2005. With the later generation, and the facelift model, you could fortunately also opt for a hatchback version with the famous M badge.
More importantly, the M140i (until the current model paid off the 6 cylinder with a 4 pitter) had a unique recipe for a hot hatch. After all, how many hot hatches have been made in the recent past with rear-wheel drive and then also with a six-in-line? The 3.0-litre six-in-line produces 340 hp and 500 Nm of torque thanks to its twin-scroll turbo. Combined with the ZF eight-speed automatic transmission, this is good for a sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.6 seconds. With that, few fellow road users will be able to keep up with you. But of course, it's not just about the numbers. In the end, it's about the experience.
That is very much in order with this car. The M140i is a sublime driving machine with rear-wheel drive, the 50-50 weight distribution, the M Sport suspension and of course that delicious six-in-line. Everything you want from a sporty BMW, but in a compact hatchback package.
This M140i is still completely original apart from the exhaust system. The Akrapovic exhaust is the best there is, though, and a nice upgrade for this M140i. In terms of composition, this one is the way you like it. 5-doors, understated colour with black leather upholstery and carbon trim in the interior. The dark styling 436 wheels accentuate the blue Brembo M-performance calipers. Furthermore, this M140i Special Edition Shadow line comes with every conceivable option such as Harman-Kardon Soundsystem, Navi Professional, Sliding tilt roof etc etc.
Our opinion
A compact Hatchback with a fat 6-cylinder in the front. Can be used anywhere, whether you need to visit somewhere posh, go on holiday, do a lap around the circuit or just use it for daily commuting, anything is possible with this M140i. Competition is basically non-existent. An original Dutch and pristine example with so few kilometres is almost impossible to find, and it is expected that this will simply become a collector's item.
About the seller
The current owner has always owned nice, fast and decent cars. He saw the just 1-year-old original Dutch BMW M140i with a full option list and only 17,000km on display at BMW dealer Dusseldorp and was immediately sold. Although his children think otherwise, he wants to sell the M140i because he is ready for something else.
