BMW 1M Coupe

The 1M Coupe is one of the most fun cars BMW has released in the last 20 years. Rear-wheel drive with limited slip, a manual gearbox and a 340bhp six-in-line are all the ingredients for a fun package. And all in chunky compact bodywork. 
There has never been a true M version of the 1-series hatchback, but in 2010 BMW came out with the 1M Coupé. The 1M obviously has a six-in-line under the hood, good for 340 hp and 450 Nm of torque. With the overboost function, even up to 500 Nm. Track width increased at both the front and rear, and of course the braking system was also modified. To put everything neatly on the road and fill the clapped-out wheel arches. The 1M shares a good portion of its chassis with the M3 E92. Although the 1M has to make do with less horsepower, this little bombshell is almost as fast as the M3, with a 0-100 time of 4.9 seconds. More importantly, the 1M is lighter, more compact and more playful. Besides, the 1M is one of the rarest M models of which only 6300 were made. That's 3x as few as were produced of the BMW E30 M3. I don't think we need to explain what happened to the prices of the E30 M3 in recent years....

The 1M is and remains an impressive car with its widened wheel arches, four exhaust tips and 19-inch competition rims. Finished in Black Sapphire Metallic with plenty of alcantara and contrasting orange stitching in the interior. This 1M has had all the attention it deserves.  Delivered in Belgium on 14 July 2011 and serviced by the BMW dealer in Ostend. In April 2018, the 1M came to the Netherlands, obviously with a correct Carpass. Maintenance then took place at the BMW specialist, viz Auto Vitel in Waalwijk. The previous owner was not satisfied with the standard 340hp and brought his car to Turbo specialist ‘Pure Turbos’ for a ‘cure’. For over 8000,- euros, you won't have any more complaints about the power with a stage 2 tuning. Via the supplied MHD App (the super licence is included), you can switch between 400hp and 600NM or 503hp and 723NM. Furthermore, a sports exhaust is fitted for a matching sound. By the way, those who want to bring the car back to original: The original turbos, exhaust and air filter are included. In addition, the known weaknesses of the N54 have been taken into account right away to make it an even more reliable car. Also, optically, a few minor nuances have been added to spice up the car. Fortunately, the lightweight front lip is indestructible.

Our opinion

A 1M as it should be. Just those nice upgrades that make it even more special than it already is. The purist might undo the modifications, but the true driving enthusiast can certainly appreciate it. The power is more than enough to humiliate the current M3. By the way, it is not a jettisoned track tiger, but a neatly maintained and driven specimen from a true enthusiast.
It was already dubbed the successor to the legendary E30 M3 at its introduction, and the longer we look at it, the more often we think this is simply right.

Notes

The car is in excellent condition, according to the owner still completely in first paint. In the rear screen there are 2 very small dents that are hardly visible. Furthermore, the right headlight has a few spots. All modifications are nicely documented with invoices. In addition, the car was serviced 250km ago at the BMW specialist where the rear silencer was also fitted.

About the seller

The previous owner bought the car a year ago to add to his collection. It was always a dream to own a BMW 1M Coupé. He got the chance to buy it, but actually already knew he couldn't stay long because of the upcoming purchase of a house. The current owner bought the car as a successor to his 4-door AMG, but soon found out that with 2 small children, this 1M is not the right car, although he had just invested in the sports exhaust and servicing. He therefore decided to sell the car again.
