About this Collectable
Volkswagen T2 Westfalia Camper
The Volkswagen T2, from the days when motorhomes still had cuddly looks and you could park them in a normal car park. That said, the current VW camper is of course still a ‘normal’ sized camper compared to the huge devices like an Adria based on a Transit or Ducato.
The very first T1 model, with the windscreen with a metal bar in the middle, the bar bus or Microbus / Transporter, was produced between 8 March 1950 and the end of 1967. In 1967, the second-generation Type 2 was introduced. Apart from external changes, the new one also had some engine improvements. At 1.6L, power increased to a whopping 48 hp.......
Several versions of the T2 were also made. Type 2s from between 1972 and the early 1980s were named T2b and could be recognised by the indicators under the windscreen. The Type 2 was available in a number of distinctive variants, for example as a van without windows and furniture in the rear, with a raised roof, as a pick-up and, of course, as a Westfalia Camper as offered here.
This Westfalia takes you right back to the basics of real camping. Four berths, a kitchenette and a couple of folding chairs are more than enough. The VW boxer engine, air-cooled of course, is recognised by everyone and is indestructible. The Westfalia was delivered to its first owner in the Netherlands on 9 June 1978. Less than two years later, the current owner bought this, in typical 70s colour, fantastic piece of car history. So he looked after it well for over 44 years. The bus was used several times a year for family holidays and trips at home and abroad and, according to his 3 children, was treated by the owner as his 4th child. Fitted with the bright upholstery for the benches and beds and brown skai upholstery on the front seats. This Westfalia excels by its simplicity, what is not on it cannot be broken and what is on it has been used but not yet worn out. In addition, this T2 Westfalia is tax-free (the low camper van rate is abolished for cars younger than 40 years) and cheap to insure.
Our opinion
A piece of nostalgia that you can also do something with. Many people buy an oldtimer and, after driving around the church three times, are no longer sure what to do with it. A Westfalia invites you to hit the road. No matter where, get in and drive. You always have your sleeping place with you and with this size you can go anywhere. You shouldn't be in a hurry, but it's the perfect hobby car for relaxing!
Equipment
This T2 Westfalia is equipped with, among other things:

Notes
Intensively used but not worn out. As already indicated, the owner treated the van as his 4th child and all necessary maintenance was carried out periodically at the local village garage. Invoices from the past 12 years show that maintenance such as oil changes, tyres and repairs were still carried out. The last service with MOT took place in October this year. A new engine was fitted at some point in the past.

About the seller
The seller bought the, then 2 years old, van 44 years ago to take holidays with his family. They did not know at first that the van would be so well liked either but eventually the T2 Westfalia would bring so much pleasure for so long. The owner is now elderly and has decided to sell the T2 through The Collectables to a new enthusiast.
