About this Collectable

Porsche 997 Carrera 2S Coupé Manual

The 997 generation was produced between 2004 and 2012. Porsche enthusiasts had been waiting with bated breath. And fortunately: the classic round and distinctive 911 headlights are back. Over the course of 8 years, around 15 different versions were released, with the Turbo and GT3 models naturally capturing the imagination the most, though they now also carry a very high price tag. The 997 is more than just a facelifted 996, as the interior was also completely revamped and modernized, finally featuring an oil temperature gauge again and, above all, finer materials. Both the Carrera and Carrera S models feature a water-cooled six-cylinder boxer engine of 3.6 or 3.8 liters with 325 and 355 hp respectively. Outwardly, the two models differ mainly at the rear, where the S-model has four exhaust pipes instead of two and the Carrera S-models have red brake calipers instead of the black ones of the Carrera. Both models were equipped as standard with a newly developed six-speed gearbox or with the modified Tiptronic-S. Another innovation was the suspension, which features controlled damping as standard on the S-models.

The coupe offered here is about 3.8 with only 5 hp less than the preceding 996 GT3 MK1, and that was a seriously fast car. It is a true ‘driver’s’ version, which in this specific configuration comes very close to a GT3. So: no sunroof and no rear wiper, but with an (adjustable Bilstein) Sport suspension, Sport seats, Sport exhaust, Shortshift, Red gauges, and much more. Additionally, it has been perfectly maintained (by a dealer) by a true enthusiast. The 19-inch Carrera Sport design rims give the car a really beefy look, and thanks to the Michelin tires, it has fantastic handling. The car was originally delivered in Germany and came to the Netherlands in 2011. Apart from two services, the 997 has been exclusively dealer-maintained, and a Bore scoring analysis was performed by Porsche Twente 1.5 years (and 4,000 km) ago, which revealed nothing concerning. In 2024, the interior was updated so that the seat foam is perfectly comfortable again and all stitching shows no signs of wear.

Our opinion

As far as we are concerned, the 997 is a perfect Porsche. The dimensions are still manageable, the interior is sporty and modern, and the seating position behind the wheel is perfect. It is perfectly suitable as daily transport and is therefore also a perfect Youngtimer candidate. A 997 S equipped with extra sporty features comes very close to a GT3 for a significantly lower price, so if you are looking for a modern classic Porsche with the right looks and perfect maintenance, this is your chance.

About the seller

The seller has been a fan of beautiful cars since his youth. After many years, he decided to purchase a beautiful Porsche 911 as a private daily driver. He chose a Porsche 997.1 because of its timeless design; it is modern enough to drive regularly. During his search, he viewed and test-drove several cars. Eventually, his neighbor alerted him that this car was becoming available through Porsche Twente. It turned out to be his old car that was becoming available again. This instilled confidence, as the car had been meticulously maintained and is an extremely tight driver's car thanks to the Bilstein suspension, shortshift, and sports exhaust. No expense was spared on maintenance in the past. He was sold immediately, and after 3.5 years, it is still a fantastic car. Now he is making the move to a 997 from the same year, but as a convertible, and once again, his neighbor's ex-car.......
