Porsche 964 Carrera 2 convertible

In 1988, Porsche presented the 964, the last air-cooled 911 with the silhouette of the 1964 original. However, the 964 is more than 85% different from the G-model before it. For example, the 964 was fitted with power steering, automatic air conditioning and ABS, among other features. In addition, the suspension was completely changed and the famous Mezger engine was revised and boosted to 3.6 litres. It also became possible to order the car with an automatic gearbox, the Tiptronic. With the automatic, leisurely cruising is possible and if desired, you shift manually. From the facelift, an airbag also became available on the 964.

The example offered here was delivered new in 1991 in Germany by Porsche Zentrum Willich, came to the Netherlands in 2001 and has a full (dealer) service history. Apart from 2 servicing at a specialist, all maintenance work was carried out at the official Porsche dealer. The last service took place 1,500km ago at Porsche Gelderland in June 2024.  Over 4 years ago, a new convertible roof including a new convertible roof frame was installed for around 11,000,- euros. In 2014, the total interior was taken care of by Cabrio Partner for over 6000,- euro, making it look like new. The paintwork is also in very good condition. Paint measurement shows that this 964 has been repainted once in its original Horizon Blue metallic colour. The paint thicknesses are even throughout, from which we conclude that the car has been repainted for cosmetic reasons. The tyres are Michelin and obviously N-coded, so no money was saved on that either. Just a specimen on which no expense has been spared, to keep it in very good condition.

Our opinion

For several years now, the Porsche 964 has been getting the attention it deserves. RSs and Turbos now cost €300,000 or more. There was a time when they were really cheap and therefore often neglected. Fortunately, this one has always had the right care and is therefore in very good condition. In the coming month, just get rid of the rust spot near the windscreen and then enjoy it in spring.

Notes

This 964 convertible is in very clean condition. The interior was reupholstered 10 years ago and the hood, including the mechanism, is only 4 years old. The car has some signs of use on the doors and on the left under the windscreen there is some corrosion that needs to be addressed by the new owner. The tyres are still fresh and have hardly any wear. Furthermore, no leaks have been detected on the engine after a long drive and the 964 drives, brakes and steers as it should.
