About this Collectable
The MG is an iconic sports car produced by the British car brand MG (Morris Garages). The MGA was first introduced in 1955 and remained in production until 1962. It was a significant milestone for MG, as it was the first sports car to be completely designed after the company's acquisition by the British Motor Corporation (BMC). The MGA's design was a radical departure from its predecessor, the MG TF, with a streamlined body and a more contemporary look. The MG-B succeeded the A in 1962 and is a welcome guest at almost every classic car event and race, and one of the most built sports cars in the world. A fun classic that actually drives quite comfortably, is technically simple, even for the novice mechanic, and has a well-stocked parts supply. With a monocoque body, the "B" is robustly built. We laugh about it now, but over 900 kg was quite a lot for such a car back then. With the 1.8-liter engine that produced 95 hp, you could easily move forward. The MGB remained in production for a full 18 years, and thanks to various facelifts, the car continued to improve.
The MGB we're offering is from 1977 and was registered new in the USA. As far as we know, it originated in sunny California and came to the Netherlands in 1997. As far as we know, the car was resprayed in its original color. The paintwork looks neat, and the bodywork is straight and rust-free. This left-hand drive MGB is mechanically sound and drives, brakes, and steers as it should. Remarkably, the car was purchased in 1997 from its first owner in Long Beach, California, with 52,116 miles on it. The bodywork was in excellent, rust-free condition and had never been welded. Only a small dent (from transport) on the front wing marred the overall appearance. The hood and tires were dried out, and the exhaust was a bit noisier than usual. The car was fitted with a new hood and exhaust, new tires, and a major service. Since then, it has driven approximately 25,000 miles over the past 28 years, and the car still looks good. A comprehensive folder of documentation supports the story.
Our Opinion
The MG brand is now in Chinese hands and is a far cry from the classically styled sports cars of yesteryear. This is a great opportunity to buy a piece of automotive history that you can actually use. Few cars offer a better driving experience than an open English roadster like this one and are perfectly usable as a classic rally car. Moreover, it's easy to work on, and parts availability is seamless. The advantage of this California import is that it's not a closed-off MG like many EU models!
About the Seller
The last owner bought the MG B in 2014 from the relatives of a good friend and enjoyed driving it. To make room for something new, he decided to sell several cars through The Collectables.

Comments
This MGB is in good and neat condition and has a new soft top. The car has signs of wear consistent with its age and mileage. The mileage appears to be original. Unfortunately, the left front seat has two tears in the upholstery. A binder full of documentation is included regarding the first owner, import to the Netherlands, and maintenance performed.
Recent maintenance history
The MG-B has not been recently serviced, but it drives perfectly, and extensive documentation is available detailing all work performed. The MOT has just expired, and we recommend a service before putting it back into service.
