General

Our website uses JavaScript, WebSockets and other features to load pictures as soon as possible. We have identified that a handful of office networks have restricted their access so stringently that viewing any sort of external / our pictures becomes difficult.

In that rare event, please switch from your office network to 4G or 5G and create a hotspot on your phone or visit the site directly from your mobile. In case of the latter, please ensure that your mobile isn't connected to the WiFi of the office network.

There is no registration fee. For obvious reasons, we will request various details from each person registering, so that we know our visitors a bit. We will deal with your data carefully, see our Privacy Statement.

Firstly, our method. An automotive online auction-platform, objectively combining supply and demand of Collectables, 24/7. Each presented with all their details, good and bad, in at least 200 unique pictures for each car. The auction-method is proven to be the most honest and transparent manner to determine the true market-price of a particular Collectable.

Secondly, our independence. We only list those Collectables of which we would be happy buying them ourselves with confidence and that will excite fellow-petrolheads as much as it excites us!

Sellers

Easy. Just drop us a message via the website or give us a call. As soon as we progress in the process, we will capture your details via our contractual agreement.

The winning bidder will receive an email confirmation (if the reserve has been met) to this effect with a payment link for our commission. After the payment of this commission has gone through, we will connect both parties and provide our best practice for finalizing this transaction safely, swiftly and, most importantly, amicably.

Hereafter both parties can agree on the financial transaction, the documentation and the physical handover of the Collectable. We are happy to support you as and when required.

We will reach out to both parties following the transaction to confirm your satisfaction with the entire process and our involvement.

Each bid and consequently also the highest bid is legally binding. Therefore, this should not occur in reality. However, in the unlikely event that it does, we will first endeavour to collect our commission from the winning bidder and sell the car to the second-highest bidder, assuming this one is above your 'reserve' too.

The difference between the winning and second-highest bid could be charged to the defaulting highest bidder.

For example, your car is sold for 20,000 EUR, but the buyer does not pay. The second-highest bid is 19,500 EUR, and this bidder is still interested. We will do our utmost to secure compensation for the 500 EUR difference for you.

In case none of these actions will have the desired effect, we will enlist your Collectable again in a new auction, albeit possibly following a short cool-down period.

As soon as the winning bidder has paid the commission to The Collectables, we will connect both parties so that the transaction can be finalized. The buyer will collect the car within 7 working days (unless otherwise agreed with the seller) and will also arrange the payment at (or prior to) that moment.

The payment of the car will be done from the buyer to the seller directly. The Collectables is no party in this transaction.

After you have signed the relevant documentation and provided as much (relevant) information about your Collectable as possible, we will draft a suitable description and share this with your for your approval.

You are and will remain responsible for the content, but we will take care of most of the writing for you.

In case the minimum sales price is not achieved, your Collectable has not been (directly) sold and you will be informed about this. It is your decision to decide, within 24 hours, whether or not you want to sell your Collectable to the highest bidder, or not. The Collectables team will where applicable, also reach out to the highest bidder(s) in order to broker a mutually agreeably deal.

Do note that at any time, during or after the auction, the seller is in his right to accept an offer which previously didn't hit the 'reserve' by lowering his minimum sales price.

Yes, if you list your Collectable without a mimimum sales price, the so-called 'No Reserve'.

If you do set a 'reserve', we are confident that, based on experience, the majority of the listed Collectables will find a new owner. This is predominantly based on setting a realistic 'reserve', something that we will do together prior to starting the data collection process.

No, you cannot. Once the auction of your Collectable has commenced, you cannot remove it. This would be harmful to the integrity of the platform and the confidence of our bidders. If you want to withdraw your Collectable from a running auction regardless, a penalty will be charged.

Our Terms & Conditions will provide all necessary details about this subject.

In case a minimum sales price ('reserve') was not pre-set, the penalty will be 6% of the expected sales price, with a minimim of 2.500 EUR including VAT. In case a 'reserve' has been agreed, the penalty will be 6% of the 'reserve' with a minimim of 2.500 EUR including VAT.

Absolutely. If you don't allow this, potential bidders will become suspicious about the quality of your car very quickly. And understandably so. Even more strongly, cars from owners who do not allow for any type of (external) check to be executed, will not be listed on our platform.

The preferred type of check will be mutually agreed, with The Collectables as the intermediary.

Yes, although always at a mutually agreeable date and time. We ensure that at least one weekend is incorporated into the auction duration, to facilitate potential viewings as and when bidders desire to do so.

In such event, the appointment will be facilitated by The Collectables and one of our team members could attend. The appointment can be done at any mutually convenient location.

Alternatively, a video-call can be arranged, where the Collectable and desired details can be shown virtually to a potential bidder.

The reality thus far is that most bidders do not require a viewing and are confident to bid on the Collectable without having seen it in the flesh. This confirms the importance of the detailed description and the high number of high-quality pictures.

No, this is strictly forbidden. You are also not allowed to ask other to bid on your behalf, directly or indirectly. All bidders will be independently verified. In case of any (suspected) irregularities, the auction will be stopped and or the sale will not be completed.

Abuse is sanctioned as listed in our Terms & Conditions.

We want to ensure fully honesty in bringing supply and demand together, at all times. Therefore, we request you to act accordingly and will take severe actions to correct this, where needed.

If it turns out that you yourself are the highest bidder after the auction, The Collectables will charge you for the premium.

You cannot alter the auction or description of your Collectable, but we can do this for you as and when required, obviously without negatively affecting the running auction.

Whilst the auction of your Collectable is active, we will be in regular contact regardless and can assist you with making relevant changes.

You can watch online how the bids are progressing. If there are questions from bidders, we will contact you or you can answer them yourself in the forum.

In addition, potential buyers may want to see the car for themselves before making their highest offer. We will then schedule an appointment in consultation with you.

Absolutely. It is your car after all, so it is your call to define which amount is satisfactory to you. Prior to listing the car, we will jointly discuss this subject in detail and decide on a fair and realistic reserve price for your Collectable.

In order to put some boundaries around this discussion, you can think of the following:

Your Collectable is probably worth more than what you would get in return for it when sold to a dealer or specialist without buying back another car.

Your Collectable is probably worth less than what those dealers or specialists would list it for in their showroom. Because that showroom, possibly even with the mandatory Corporate Identity, their staff, any warranty, certain discounts, the traded-in vehicle and the delivery service all need to be paid somehow. Understandably, this is factored into the sales prices that are advertised. And don't forget that these are asking prices after all, which means that the actual sales prices will be (quite considerably) lower than the advisered ones.

Do you want full certainty that your Collectable will be sold to a new owner by the end of the auction? Listing your car without a minimum sales price (the 'reserve') ensures this. This means that the car will be sold to the highest bidder, irrespective of the level of that bid.

When your car is listed with a 'reserve', it is possibly to lower this 'reserve' during the auction process at any time.

The more, the better. The more detailed (albeit relevant) information that can be included in the description of your Collectable, such as its history, previous owners, maintenance booklets, recent services, and so on, the more confidence potentially bidders will have in the car.

The Collectables strives to represent all the available information (from public sources as well as provided by the owner) about the Collectable accurately, but cannot be held liable for the content, any inaccuracies or omitted information in the description. This is why the owner confirms the draft description of the Collectable prior to it being listed on our platform.

Click here for more information and instructions about the details and the photos.

First of all, a detailed description of the car. We will send you a simple online form to be completed. Secondly, at least 150 high-quality pictures from all angles and with all details of your Collectable.

We also request for a copy of the registration card and proof of ownership. All this information will be clearly detailed out in a mutual agreement, which will be signed digitally.

If you have any questions, please contact us by phone or email.

An auction typically runs for approximately 2 weeks. We will jointly decide on the this period as well as the start time.

The end-date of the auction follows the above and the end time will only be extended if a new bid is being entered in the last 2 minutes prior to the auction ending. If this happens, the new end time will be automatically pushed to 2 minutes later than the previous end time. This event can occur multiple times and will only stop once no more bid are being entered in the last 2 minutes. In addition, the auction may be extended by 5 minutes if the reserve is not achieved. The highest bid remains binding.

We will jointly decide on the most appropriate start and end-date. Factors such as your movements, a scheduled service for the car and or the other Collectables expected on the platform all play a role in this decision.

Our shared objective is to sell your Collectable at the best possible price. Rest assured that we will do everything in our power to make this work for you!

The car needs to create desire among petrolheads first or foremost. It can be a weird, rare, iconic or just special. Ranging from a Peugeot 205 GTI to a Porsche 928 and from a Fiat Panda 4x4 to a Ferrari Testarossa.

Secondly, the car needs to be as original as possible, with a clear maintenance history and preferably not too many previous owners and mileage. And where possible, an interesting story to tell.

Our assessment will always remain subjective, so feel free to reach out to us to discuss when you are not sure. For obvious reasons, the final decision to list a car or not is ours.

Simple. You fill in the ‘List your car’ form on the website and send it to us, including at least 2 recent photos of your car. We will then contact you within 24 hours.

You pay no commission fee to The Collectables.

However, you are required to supply professional photos of both all perfections and imperfections of the car. From The Collectables, we offer a number of packages with amenities including a photographer.

We charge a market-based price for these elements.

As The Collectables offers the possibility to physically show all cars to potential buyers upon request, in principle only cars in the Netherlands are suitable for the auction. In consultation, we can also offer cars just outside the national border.

Forum

We are not monitoring each and every message separately, but we are checking them on a regular basis. In case we observe any irregularities, we will take appropriate action accordingly.

Your support is welcome in this regard. If you are of the opinion that a certain message is not appropriate, please send us a message on [email protected].

Yes, you can, if you register so that we and the other users know who we are dealing with. The forum is primarily intended to share information and questions about the Collectable on offer. Questions asked just before the end of the auction are not always answered because it often takes time to find out the right answer.

Furthermore, the forum is not intended to make appointments to view a lot. For this, please send an e-mail to [email protected].

Buyers

The Collectables facilitates the auction of the Collectable offered and selects cars based on criteria related to them being Collectable-enough. We are not responsible for the accuracy of the information provided by the seller and or the technical condition of the car.

Each bidder / buyer has the opportunity to view, assess or check a car prior to bidding, if he or she so desires. We want the bidders to ensure for themselves that this Collectable is fully up to the desired state and or their expectations.

The Collectables strives to represent all the available information (from public sources as well as provided by the owner) about the Collectable accurately, but cannot be held liable for the content, any inaccuracies or omitted information in the description.

If the owner has deliberately withheld information, you have the option to cancel the purchase in accordance with the Terms & Conditions.

Only if there is still existing warranty on the Collectable as it is offered by the seller.

The Collectables is not a party in the sale of the car and does not offer warranty. Various brands and external provider provide third-party warranty on used cars, but only after a detailed inspection and assuming that various criteria (such as age, mileage and service history) are met.

The inidividual owners / sellers of all Collectables on our platform explicitly agree (in writing, prior to listing their car) that bidders / potential buyers can carry out any sort of inspection, check or valuation. In other words: there is nothing to hide.

In case the minimum sales price is not achieved, the Collectable has not been (directly) sold. Following the auction, The Collectables team will then decide on the next steps with the seller and, where applicable, reach out to the highest bidder(s) in order to broker a mutually agreeably deal.

Do note that at any time, during or after the auction, the seller is in his right to accept an offer which previously didn't hit the 'reserve' by lowering his minimum sales price.

Also, the bidding period for the lot may be extended and therefore longer bids can be made.

In the Netherlands, with both parties being Dutch citizens, this is very straightforward and can be done online. More information can be found at this link: https://www.rdw.nl/en/buying-a-car/transfer-registration-number-to-a-persons-name.

However, for international buyers, it fully depends on the countries of origin for the cars as well as the buyer. Based on this, working with our export partners where necessary, we can support both parties to make this happen.

Yes, although this is only possible via The Collectables or via the forum at the bottom of the listing for each Collectable. The latter ensures that any questions will only have to be answered once, for the benefit of all the bidders as well as the seller.

Following the payment of the commission to The Collectables by the winning bidder, we will connect the buyer and the seller and provide both parties with our tips and tricks for finalizing this transaction safely, swiftly and, most importantly, amicably. Hereafter both parties can agree on the financial transaction, the documentation and the physical handover of the Collectable. We are happy to support you as and when required.

The commission for cars advertised from 1-1-2024 is 10% of the winning bid with a minimum of EUR 300 including VAT.

The Collectables may decide to vary the commission for certain lots. This can always be seen during bidding in the bid overview before you finalise your bid.

This is only the cost for the platform and is not a down payment to the seller or an initial contribution to additional costs such as transport, insurance or other matters to be arranged after the purchase.

The seller does not pay any fees to The Collectables for selling a Collectable through our platform.

All the Collectables without a minimum sales price ('reserve') wil have this clearly mentioned in the listing and or description of the car. This means that all other Collectables, i.e. the ones that do not have the "No Reserve" label attached to them, do have a minimum sales price ('reserve'), as agreed with the current owner of the car.

So-called 'snipers' are bidders who place a bid in the dying seconds of an auction with the obvious aim to win the Collectable at that bid. Our platform addresses this by automatically extending the auction's duration by at least 2 minutes. This ensures that others bidders have sufficient time to put in their bid, if they so desire.

Once the bidding stops (and no more bids are being entered in the last 2 minutes), the auction ends and the highest bidder is the winner (provided the 'reserve' has been met).

Although this is in principle not possible (the amount entered is prominently displayed again, along with the total amount including commission), please report this immediately. By e-mail, but also directly by telephone. It must be a clear mistake, not a bid that is within the range of the realistic sale price. See also 'Can I cancel or retract my bid?'.

Please note: any costs resulting from removing the incorrect bid and/or cancelling the auction will be charged.

In your account, you can activate an automatic bidding system with a maximum amount set by you. This bid robot will automatically place a higher bid whenever another bid is placed, using the minimum required increment. Please note: other bidders may also activate a bid robot, so make sure your limit is high enough.

Your bid will only increase if a higher competing bid is placed. Your maximum bid is not necessarily the final price you will pay for the Collectable.

Example: Imagine you are bidding on a Mazda MX-5 in your favorite color, with only 5.300 km on the clock. You set your bid robot to 20.000 EUR because that's the maximum amount you value this car at. The auction starts while you're on a flight without WiFi. Intense bidding takes place, but the highest bid stops at 14.000 EUR. Your bid robot automatically raises this by the minimum increment of 250 EUR. Once you land, you'll receive an email confirming that you have become the proud owner of a unique MX-5 for 14.250 EUR plus auction fees (provided the reserve price has been met)!

For more details on how the bid robot works, check out the FAQ under "How does the bid robot work?". Still have questions? Feel free to contact us by phone or email—we’re happy to help!

Depending on the height of the last bid, the steps for the minimum increase at the minimum next bid go up as follows:

Minimum EUR 250 per bid at a value of up to EUR 10,000
Minimum EUR 500 per bid at a value between EUR 10,000 and EUR 50,000
Minimum EUR 1,000 per bid at a value between EUR 50,000 and EUR 100,000
Minimum EUR 2,000 per bid for a value of EUR 100,000 or more

And if you prefer to make a higher bid immediately, you can of course do so too.

It is not always visible. That is part of the auction process, the minimum selling price (‘reserve’) is known only to the seller (and to us, of course) unless we decide in consultation with the seller to indicate the reserve. But assume a market-based price. As the bids get closer to the ‘reserve’, it will be indicated during the auction that the minimum amount has not yet been reached-, almost reached- or has been reached.

A Collectable may also be explicitly marked ‘No Reserve’. In this case, there is no minimum sale price and the car is therefore always sold to the highest bidder.

No time to follow the auction yourself? You can activate our bid robot if desired. This ensures that your bid will automatically be increased (by the lowest possible increment and only until it hits your pre-set maximum bid, a so-called 'proxy bid') once you have been outbid by another bidder.

For example: A Porsche Boxster in the auction is currently at 12,000 EUR. You want to buy this car but do not want to pay more than 19,000 EUR (excluding commission), so that will be defined as your maximum bid once you set up the bid robot accordingly.

The bid robot will then place a bid of 12,250 EUR on your behalf (see the list of minimum increments below). If another bidder places a bid of 16,000 EUR, your bid robot will respond by offering 16,500 EUR.

Once the auction finishes, your highest bid stands at 16,500 EUR, and you could very well be the winner of the auction, provided that the minimum sales price ('the reserve') set by the seller has been met.

What happens if your bid robot gets outbid by another bidder, but in hindsight, you were willing to offer a higher price? In either case, once you have been outbid, you will receive an email notification, allowing you to either adjust your maximum bid in the bid robot or place a bid manually.

Please note: in order to allow all bidders a fair chance to respond to a bid, the auction's end time will automatically be extended by up to 2 minutes if a last-minute bid is placed.

If you’re unsure about your maximum bid or you want to make sure that this Collectable ends up on your driveway, be sure to set a high enough maximum bid or actively monitor the last 2 minutes of the auction so that you can place a bid manually if needed.

Minimum bid increments:

Minimum 250 EUR per bid at a value up to 10,000 EUR
Minimum 500 EUR per bid at a value between 10,000 and 50,000 EUR
Minimum 1,000 EUR per bid at a value between 50,000 and 100,000 EUR
Minimum 2,000 EUR per bid for a value over 100,000 EUR

And if you prefer to place a higher bid immediately, you can of course do so.

Once set, you can find your bid robot under Account > Bid Robot.

As long as the maximum bid of the bidding robot has not been reached, this maximum bid can be adjusted.

When in doubt, feel free to reach out to us by phone or email, and we will guide you through the steps.

It is possible that multiple bidders have set up a bid robot. These will automatically outbid each other (until they reach their pre-set maximum bid), which may make it difficult to place a bid manually.

In such a case, it may be advisable to set up a bid robot yourself via your account page.

We prefer quality over quantity, any day of the week. The Collectables is an candy-store, not a wholesaler. High-quality cars are not often sold by their owner and hence in limited supply. We believe it is better than add a handful cars every week rather than 30 that just aren't right, in terms of condition, history, ownership and or originality.

Please have a look around on our Archive for cars that have been auctioned on our platform for your quick fix of automotive pleasure.

Stripe is a service which allows its consumers to safely identify themselves. This ensures that visitors and users of our platform know that the people use the site actually exist and abuse is minimised. The Collectables solely uses this facility for buyers and sellers.

If you have any further questions, send an email to: [email protected].

Absolutely. There are various possibilities, fully tailored to your specific needs. It is possible for you to:

Check out the car yourself (virtually), possibly with an expert, so that you are 100% certain that the Collectable fully meets your expectations

Assign an independent car-broker to check the car top-to-bottom

Deploy an accredited valuator to assess the car's value

Conduct a pre-purchase inspection with a main dealer or independent specialist.

We are selecting the cars primarily based on our assessment whether a car is Collectable or not. We will use public sources of information (such as RDW, Finnik, Carfax, etc.) to obtain as much objective third-party information as possible. However, it is solely the bidder's responsibility to ascertain a Collectable is exactly what you want it to be, technically, cosmetically or otherwise. Each seller has given The Collectables and its bidders the green light to conduct any desired viewing, examination, valuation or other checks at a mutally agreed date and time.

The Collectables strives to display any and all information about a Collectable accurately at all times. However, we will not be responsible, or liable to any third party, for the content or accuracy of any content on our website.

Would you like to view a car? Then send an email to [email protected].

Following your registration on our website, you will be able to place your bids on the Collectables on our platform.

Simply click on "Bid" and enter your bid amount. Do note that you cannot randomly place a bid. Your bid is binding, as you will be reminded of prior to finalizing your bid, which means you will have purchased an amazing Collectable if your bid is both the highest and is higher than the 'reserve' price.

Please check our Terms and Conditions if you have any questions or drop us a message at [email protected].

In the unlikely event that the car is not sold immediately via the auction, we will enter the after sale period. The highest bidder may increase his bid, the seller can accept this.

If they do not come to an agreement, we will follow up on the other leads. The concrete bids become visible at the lot because as the highest bid is adjusted. This prevents many questions and bids below the asking price. The final sales price is therefore also shown.

If the car says ‘Sold’ and the first picture shows the rear, the car has been sold. This can be directly through the auction because the minimum selling price (the ‘Reserve’) has been met and the commission paid. Or after the highest bid is accepted, whether or not after mediation between seller and the highest bidder between The Collectables.

This highest bid is shown in the lot description. So if a car is not marked ‘Sold’, it is still under negotiation and/or available.

Only in a ‘No Reserve’ auction (i.e. without a minimum sale price) is the highest bid automatically the price at which the car is sold. This is then clearly stated at the auction.

By our standard, a car is not sold until it has been paid and both parties are satisfied. Moreover, some (new) owners prefer not to display the selling price (e.g. for reasons of privacy and residual value of the car).

That is why you often see ‘Winning bid’ at other auctions, which suggests that the car has been sold but actually only indicates the highest bid.

If you want to know whether a specific car has been sold, please contact us.

No, you can't. A bid is legally binding. You are also reminded of this prior to confirming your bid. This means that in the event that you are the highest bidder (and the 'reserve' has been met), you will be liable for the commission (6% of the bid with a minimum of 300 EUR including VAT) as well as buying the car for the bid amount. The seller can press legal charges if he so desires in the event that you are not finalizing the purchase of the Collectable timely.

Irrespective of a possible minimum sales price ('reserve'), it is in the seller's right to accept a bid during or following the auction duration.
