BMW 535i (E34) Manual
The BMW 5 series came onto the market in late 1972 as the successor to BMW ‘neue klasse’. We have now reached the 8th generation, but it all started with the E12 that was built until 1981. In its last year of production, BMW M GmbH also supplied the E12 as a 535, i.e. with the 3.5 litre from the 7-series. At the time, a super-fast sedan for the sporty driver. After its successor, the E28, was released, the 535i also came on the market at a later stage, which was also available as an M535i with many sporty extras.In 1985, the first M5 came on the market. A true ‘Autobahnbrenner’ with the engine of the BMW M1. In December 1987, the curtain fell on the E28 and its successor, the E34 with better aerodynamics and a clear derivative of the 7-series (E32), arrived. Almost immediately, the BMW 535i became available and, apart from the 8-cylinder 540i and the M5, was the strongest 6-cylinder variant. Like almost all BMWs of the time, they were real driving machines that you could still specify with the right hardware.
The 535i offered here was delivered new in Italy and specified by a true enthusiast. In addition to metallic paint, leather upholstery, air conditioning and sunroof, he also ticked the limited slip differential and left the automatic gearbox box blank.... In short, a real driving example, which was used sporadically with nice weather. Interior, paint, underbody, engine bay, it all looks like it has hardly suffered from outside influences. The original wax layer is still on the engine and apart from some very minor signs of use, the car is in fantastic condition. Even the rims still look like new and are fitted with excellent Continental tyres. Only 68,000 km were driven with this 535i and it shows in everything.
Our opinion
If we had to put together a car ourselves at the time, we would have done it exactly like this, because what a cool car this is. The fact that this 535i still looks so good after 37 years is partly due to the fact that it was driven on average less than 2,000 km a year. Just enough to make sure everything stays nice and smooth and no stand damage and not too much to wear out the car. In short, a unique opportunity to acquire a real driver's car that is in very good condition.
